If you are wondering what a Morgan 27 is then you are in luck. The Morgan 27 was built during the early 70's, it won the MORC championship in 1971. In PHRF it rates about 177, it's best point of sail is upwind, where it will out point any boat from its time, and many newer boats. Light air is another one of its strong points, the Morgan has low wetted surface compared to many of todays boats, and a fine bow entry doesn't hurt either. The deck layout is standard early 70's, small cockpit and lots of room on the foredeck. The construction of the boat is sufficient to say the least, and with no running back stays, dual lower shrouds, and a keel stepped mast it doesn't seem likely that anything is going to fall down anytime. While its not really a hotrod by todays standards (It's not exactly the type of boat to rocket off on a plane), it's still definately a competative boat, and it's a great boat to sail. At one time there were a bunch of them in the Detroit area, but that number has gotten smaller as the years go by. But thanks to PHRF the Morgan 27 lives to race again. |

News: Updated 12/01/06: I cleaned out the bad links and added some new ones Updated 11/03/06: On the Archive page, you'll find a newspaper article and picture comparing the smallest and largest boats in the 2006 Port Huron to Mackinac race. One is a M27! Updated 2/27/06: I put up the page that I made about how I faired our keel last spring: Keel Fairing 101 Updated 1/1/06: Over the holidays I found two old articles on the M27, one regarding sail trim and one is a general discussion about M27 modifications. Both can be read on the Tips page. I also uploaded a couple pictures of a M27s, one with an interesting modified keel. Updated 7/25/05: I added a new topic to the message board, to make a list of all the owners of M27s. So, post a reply and let everyone else interested in M27s know who you are and where you're at! I think that it would be good for everyone to be able to contact each other. (three updates in under a week, I'm on a roll...) Updated 7/24/05: I dug through my email and uploaded 19 more pictures of M27s and 1 picture of a TMI-27. Sorry it took so long, I've been lazy about doing computer work lately. Updated 7/18/05: I uploaded a line drawing of the M27 that I made into the "archive". I'm going to thicken up the lines and use it as a template for screen printing some t-shirts, I'll upload that version when its done. Feel free to do whatever you want with it. Next I plan on working on instructions for fairing a keel, I did it to Lickety Split this spring and took a lot of pictures that will help describe how to do it. It seems to have helped, we've take first place in both the spring and summer race series this year! I'm also going to work on digging through my email and making sure all the pictures of M27s that I've been sent get onto the site. Updated 10/27/04: The message board has been fixed! Email me if you have any trouble with it. I hope to have all the recent pictures that people have sent loaded onto the site within the next month, so stay tuned. Updated 10/26/04: The new "improved" message board is having some issues, not with the message board but the server at the hosting service is causing lack of disk space errors, they are fixing this. So the message board will be running ERROR FREE! by friday 10/29, that will give me some time to reload it and retest everything. Updated 10/17/04 OK, new message board! The last one kept giving error messages, this one is easier to use and hopefully will run better. Sorry to all of you that registered and posted, you'll have to do that again.
